n 1988 the Nixa area was just being developed. Nixa had two gas stations, two hardware stores, farmland and a McDonalds. Then came Cashew Inn Cashew Out. Our friends asked us what we were thinking when we made the decision to open a Chinese restaurant in the middle of no-where and with a drive through! Prior to opening Cashew Inn Cashew Out, our family ran restaurants that seated anywhere from 100 to 200+ people in New Orleans and other big cities but now we were looking for a place we could just enjoy and not require so many workers. When you love what you are doing and others enjoy it also, it keeps you busy. We enjoy the company! We told our friends that Nixa is growing and the community is very clean and beautiful and this is the area we want to settle down in. When you look out our window into the community it’s kind of hard to imagine what it was like just 18 years ago. Today we literally have everything we need just in the town of Nixa! So many restaurants and stores to choose from! Our community is still beautiful and very clean. Our schools are wonderful and the people are great!
Our dad and mom, Moon Chong Shik & Wha Soon, loved to entertain and dad’s greatest enjoyment came from people who enjoyed his food and would eat a lot of it. Many guests would come and be welcomed by his words of, “Eat more! Eat more!” Their goal was not for fortune and fame but rather just doing what they enjoyed doing and that was seeing people eat well and having a good time doing it. Our dad passed away in 1997 and mom is now enjoying the grandchildren. You’ll see her once in a while at the restaurant stopping by to hangout and enjoying the food.
Today the restaurant is owned by their daughter, Yong Moon, who started the business with her parents in 1988 and has carried on the passion of serving great food! She had a desire for her children to grow up in a good area where they could be a part of the community. Her children were very active in the Nixa area while attending school and loved everything about it. They are out of high school now and look forward to coming home and eating at Cashew Inn Cashew Out. In fact, this is often where they come first even before going home. It was her desire to help her parents retire and not work so hard. Cashew Inn Cashew Out is a little fast food restaurant with a drive thru window for your convenience. The size of the building is small but the taste of there food is tremendous! One bite and you will be hooked!
You’ll see new faces and some old ones too when you visit Cashew Inn Cashew Out. But the heart and spirit of serving great food is alive as ever and the friendships we have made through the years are priceless!
